Veteran's Day

on and on i’ve went and gone and fallen so far behind running always working never having no time let off from the army settle into sweet repose keeping everything inside until it explodes come up in my dream, you won’t come down you get the feeling that you’re being run out of town I was a soldier in the evergreen war nobody seems to talk about it no more you, you don’t know, what this life can do to a fool like me you, you don’t know, what this life can do to a fool like me strangers and their kindnesses help me along the way give me so much more than I can hope to repay situations rise and fall but they don’t belong to me I can’t get inside ‘em can’t pretend that I see caught up in my dream, you won’t get free you start to get the feeling you’re lost out at sea tell all the old men stop telling tales nobody really believes in chasing white whales oh you, you don’t know, what a love can do to a fool like me you, you don’t know, what a love can do to a fool like me lying underwater looking up at the surface lights shining so alive and playing games with my eyes footfalls on the cobblestone echoing in the fog I just act at their command, I do tricks like a dog come up in my dream, you won’t come out you start to see what the mad men are laughing about somewhere in my dream I already know i’ve had this one before and I know how it goes oh you, you don’t know, what this world can do to a fool like me you, you don’t know, what this world can do to a fool like me
